IRCC refreshed its temporary residence processing times on July 2, 2026, and the trend that's defined the last month held: in-Canada work permits keep falling. The estimate dropped another 15 days to 129 days — the lowest of the year and now just 9 days above the 120-day service standard. The super visa table stayed volatile in both directions: India fell 16 days to 50, while the United States climbed 19 days to 123.
This is the weekly temporary residence update — work permits, study permits, visitor visas, and super visas. The figures below compare the July 2 estimates against the June 24 update. The monthly permanent residence and citizenship categories weren't part of this refresh.
Work permits — the in-Canada drop reaches a 2026 low
The in-Canada work permit is the headline for the fifth straight week. At 129 days, it's down 15 from 144 the week before, and now within a week and a half of the 120-day standard — the closest gap of the year. Nigeria also improved, shedding a week.
| Applying from | Current (July 2) | Previous (June 24) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canada | 129 days | 144 days | −15 days |
| India | 9 weeks | 9 weeks | — |
| Pakistan | 5 weeks | 5 weeks | — |
| Nigeria | 8 weeks | 9 weeks | −1 week |
| United States | 4 weeks | 4 weeks | — |
| Philippines | 8 weeks | 8 weeks | — |
Service standards: 120 days for in-Canada submissions (initial and extensions), 60 days for applications from outside Canada.
The in-Canada estimate has now fallen from 171 days in mid-June to 129 in two updates — a steady, consistent decline rather than a one-week blip. That's the most reliable positive trend in the whole 2026 dataset. But 129 is still above the 120-day standard, so if your permit is close to expiring, a falling number doesn't change what you owe: apply to extend before it lapses so you keep maintained status and can keep working under the same conditions while IRCC decides.
Super visas — India down, the US and Philippines up
The super visa table swung the widest again. India fell 16 days to 50 — its lowest of the year — while the United States climbed 19 days to 123 and the Philippines added 10.
| Applying from | Current (July 2) | Previous (June 24) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| India | 50 days | 66 days | −16 days |
| Pakistan | 102 days | 95 days | +7 days |
| Nigeria | 32 days | 34 days | −2 days |
| United States | 123 days | 104 days | +19 days |
| Philippines | 52 days | 42 days | +10 days |
Service standard: 112 days. Super visa applications can only be filed from outside Canada.
The super visa lets parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents visit for up to five years at a time — the practical alternative for families who can't wait out the Parents and Grandparents Program, where the queue runs years, not months. India's drop to 50 days is a real opening if that's your route, but these swings are volatile week to week, and the US moving the opposite direction by nearly three weeks is the reminder. Line up the medical exam and the qualifying private health insurance before you file — a missing piece sends the application to the back of the line.
Study permits — a small step back
Study permits ticked up a week for two of the busiest routes and held flat everywhere else. It's the one category that got slower this week.
| Applying from | Current (July 2) | Previous (June 24) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canada | 7 weeks | 6 weeks | +1 week |
| India | 5 weeks | 4 weeks | +1 week |
| Pakistan | 6 weeks | 6 weeks | — |
| Nigeria | 5 weeks | 5 weeks | — |
| United States | 5 weeks | 5 weeks | — |
| Philippines | 4 weeks | 4 weeks | — |
Inland study permits rose to 7 weeks and India climbed to 5. A five-to-seven-week estimate is still workable for a fall 2026 start — but it assumes a complete application with a valid provincial attestation letter, so build in buffer. See our study permit guide and the 2026 study permit cap rules.
Visitor visas — mostly small improvements
Most visitor visa estimates eased by a few days. Canada-based applications dropped to 38, Pakistan fell 5 days, and India edged down to 21. Nigeria and the US crept up slightly.
| Applying from | Current (July 2) | Previous (June 24) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canada | 38 days | 42 days | −4 days |
| India | 21 days | 22 days | −1 day |
| Pakistan | 38 days | 43 days | −5 days |
| Nigeria | 56 days | 54 days | +2 days |
| United States | 32 days | 31 days | +1 day |
| Philippines | 17 days | 17 days | — |
Service standard: 14 days for applications from outside Canada.
What this week means for you
If you're waiting on an in-Canada work permit: This is the best table in the release for the fifth week running — 129 days and closing on the 120-day standard. But it's still above it, so keep maintained status if your permit is expiring and don't book anything that assumes a faster decision than the published number.
If you're sponsoring a super visa: India and Nigeria improved; the US, Pakistan, and the Philippines got slower. Wherever you're applying from, the medical exam and qualifying insurance are the pieces you control — get them done before you file.
If you're applying for a study permit: The window widened to five-to-seven weeks. It's still enough runway for a September start if you submit a complete application with your attestation letter now, but the trend ticked the wrong way this week — don't cut it close.
If you're choosing between streams: Processing speed is one input, not the whole decision. IRCC updates these temporary figures every week, so this snapshot will shift again in seven days — a faster temporary permit doesn't outweigh the value of a permanent pathway.
IRCC's published processing time is a forward-looking estimate, not a promise — and the single biggest thing that blows past it is a request for more information. A file that triggers a request for an updated medical, a missing reference letter, or a clarification can add weeks no table will warn you about. Before you submit any work, study, visitor, or super visa application, run the official document checklist line by line and answer every optional field you can support with evidence. A complete application is the only part of your processing time you actually control.
