Between August 14 and 19, 2026, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) ran two draws and invited 767 candidates to apply for provincial nomination — and one of those rounds, on its own, was the largest Alberta Opportunity Stream draw of the year.

The August 14 round dwarfs anything Alberta ran in its previous batch — five draws between August 4 and 12 issued 367 invitations combined, and no single round in that stretch topped 127. The August 19 healthcare round, by contrast, was unusually small: at 24 invitations, CIC News flagged it as the lowest invitation count for this specific draw type in 2026 to date — Alberta's eighth healthcare-targeted draw of the year, part of a set of 2026 priorities that also includes construction, technology, and manufacturing occupations.
With these two rounds, the AAIP has now run 71 selection draws in 2026 and issued no fewer than 11,982 invitations to apply as of August 25.
Why the Opportunity Stream round is worth noting
The Alberta Opportunity Stream is the province's general-occupation pathway — open to workers already employed in Alberta across a wide range of jobs, not tied to a specific sector like healthcare or tech. A 743-invitation round through it, at a modest minimum score of 58, signals the province using its stream with the broadest eligibility to move a large batch of candidates in a single day. It also accounted for 96.9% of all invitations issued across the two draws — the healthcare round was almost a rounding error by comparison.
Where Alberta's allocation stands
Following a mid-year increase of 200 nomination spaces, Alberta's total 2026 federal allocation sits at 6,603 nominations, up from 6,403. As of August 25, the province reports:

Total nominations issued: 4,560, leaving 2,043 slots for the rest of the year — a smaller remaining pool than a month ago, when Alberta had 2,419 left after its August 4–12 batch. Alberta's worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) pool held 36,255 profiles as of August 25, with the Alberta Opportunity Stream making up about 62.5% of it, and 1,335 nomination applications were still awaiting a final decision.
Separate from the main 2026 allocation, Alberta has also used supplementary spaces to nominate 50 practice-ready physicians and 12 francophone candidates this year — those don't count against the 6,603 total.
