Work permits — Canada and Pakistan improve, India and the Philippines slip

The in-Canada figure is the one worth noting on its own: 113 days is the lowest reading IRCC has published for in-Canada work permits at any point in 2026, continuing a steady decline from 142 days back in January. Pakistan's improvement is welcome after several updates trending the wrong way. The Philippines gave back both weeks of ground it gained in the last cycle, jumping from 5 to 7 weeks — the single largest move in this update.

Study permits — India cuts its wait nearly in half

Visitor visas — limited movement across the board

Nothing here moved by more than two days in either direction — the quietest category in this update.

Super visas — broad improvement except India

Super visa applications can only be submitted from outside Canada. Pakistan's 23-day drop is the largest single move in this entire update across every category, and the Philippines improved by 11 days on top of last cycle's gain. India is the outlier, adding 5 days after already climbing in the prior update — worth watching if the trend continues into the next release.

If you're applying for a work permit in Canada: 113 days is the best this number has looked all year. If you've been waiting to submit an extension, this update doesn't give you a reason to delay further.

If you're applying for a study permit from India: the wait is back to 5 weeks after briefly stretching to 7. Don't assume it stays there — this category has moved by 2 weeks in either direction in back-to-back updates.

If you're a super visa applicant from Pakistan: this is the best news in the release — a 23-day improvement on top of an already-improving trend. Pakistan's wait has now dropped from 176 days in mid-August to 139 today.

If you're applying for a work permit from the Philippines: the wait more than doubled the improvement it made last cycle, jumping back to 7 weeks. Build the longer estimate into your planning rather than the 5-week figure from two weeks ago.
